Achmea appoints new Executive Board members

Achmea, the largest insurance group in the Netherlands with cooperative roots, has appointed two new members to its Executive Board. From 1 April, Huub Arendse, currently a partner at KPMG Nederland, will become Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Achmea. Roelof Konterman, who currently heads Achmea's Health Division, will also join the Executive Board as a member as of the same date.

Huub Arendse (54) has been with KPMG since 1982 and headed KPMG's Financial Services activities until 2007. Mr. Arendse is also a member of KPMG International's Global Insurance Leadership Team. Roelof Konterman (56) joined Achmea in 1983 and has held several positions, including five years spent abroad. He has held various senior management posts within Achmea's Health Division since 2004 and has been head of the Health Division since 2008, to which Agis was added in 2011.

Willem van Duin, Chairman of the Executive Board, comments: "I am pleased with these welcome additions to our Executive Board. It is good that the new members both know our organisation well. Huub Arendse is an experienced specialist in accounting and financial management at insurance companies and is also well acquainted with Achmea, while Roelof Konterman has wide-ranging experience within our group, both in the field of private health insurance and internationally."

Erik van de Merwe, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: "It is very important, particularly in the current climate, for an insurance group of Achmea's size and with its range of activities to be assured of its financial strength and of being able to maintain its central focus on the interests of its clients. The Supervisory Board is confident that the current Executive Board with the two new members will continue effectively safeguarding the interests of all our stakeholders."

From 1 April 2013, Achmea's Executive Board will consist of Willem van Duin (Chairman), Huub Arendse (CFO), Danny van der Eijk (Non-Life, Direct and Broker Distribution), Jeroen van Breda Vriesman (Pensions, Life, Large Corporates and Bank Distribution) and Roelof Konterman (Health and International).

The regulators DNB and AFM have completed their screening of these appointments and Achmea's Central Works Council has given a positive recommendation.
