Achmea holds international ‘OpCo Week’ in Leeuwarden
This week, Achmea is holding its annual ‘OpCo week’ in Leeuwarden, bringing together the management teams of all the foreign activities (Operating Companies). The focus is on group strategy (the same for the Netherlands and other countries), which will be explained and discussed with Achmea’s Executive Board. The theme this year is ‘The Sum of Us’, which concentrates on strengthening co-operation between the international units and the group.
Achmea is the leader in the Dutch insurance market and also active in five other countries: Greece, Turkey, Slovakia, Canada and Australia. The operational profit of the international activities rose to €29 million in 2018. Our international strategy is founded on our core qualities: non-life and healthcare expertise via digital and banking distribution channels.
Achmea wants to contribute to healthy, safe and future-proof societies in the Netherlands and abroad. Willem van Duin, Chairman of Achmea’s Executive Board: “We work with a common strategy in the countries where Achmea operates, focusing on developing products and services that not only meet the wishes of our customers but also fulfil a social need. To do this, we use our knowledge of digital and banking distribution combined with knowledge of local markets to give our customers the best possible service.”
An example of a successful international alliance is the introduction of Bewell health insurance by Interamerican, Achmea’s Greek insurer. Bewell offers customers personalised health plans based on their wishes and financial position. Interamerican is the first insurer to offer health insurance in this way in Greece.
In Canada, Onlia, the online insurance proposition for private customers, is an excellent example of international co-operation. Onlia is a joint venture between Achmea and the Canadian company Fairfax Financial. Onlia operates using Achmea’s Inshared online IT platform: an excellent model for collaboration in IT between our Dutch and international businesses.
