Achmea appoints Rogier Peters member of the Executive Board and Chief Risk Officer

Rogier Peters will be appointed as a member of the Executive Board and Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of Achmea, effective 1 October 2026. He will succeed Michiel Delfos, who will step down on the same date. Rogier Peters has held the position of CRO at international insurer MSIG Europe, which specialises in commercial non-life and maritime insurance, since 2020.

Rogier Peters is an experienced insurance executive and an expert in risk management with an actuarial background. He has worked in the international insurance sector for more than twenty years and previously held CRO roles at Ageas UK and Etiqa, among others. His career began in actuarial practice at Tillinghast Towers Perrin, Aegon and Fortis. He studied Actuarial Science at the University of Amsterdam and followed supplementary courses in Asset Liability Management (ALM) and risk management.

Composition of the Board
The newly composed Executive Board will comprise of Bianca Tetteroo (Chair), Michel Lamie (Vice-Chair and CFO), Rogier Peters (CRO), Daphne de Kluis, Robert Otto and Lidwien Suur.

The appointment of Rogier Peters has been approved by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and received a positive recommendation from the Central Works Council. His appointment was discussed at Achmea’s General Meeting today.

Michiel Delfos to step down from Executive Board in 2026

Chief Risk Officer Michiel Delfos has decided to step down as a member of Achmea’s Executive Board in 2026. After twelve years with the company, including four years as a member of the Executive Board, he has chosen not to pursue a second term. He looks forward to the next phase of his life, focusing his time and energy on new opportunities on both a business and personal level.

Michiel has enjoyed a distinguished career at Achmea over the years. Starting as director of Property & Casualty insurance in early 2014, he went on to be appointed Chair of the Non-life division in October 2015. In April 2022, he joined the Executive Board.

In addition, he has led the development and implementation of our sustainability ambitions with great passion. While we are sad to see Michiel leave, we respect his decision. Michiel Delfos: "After careful consideration, I have decided not to seek a second four-year term. It was not an easy decision, as I am certain I will miss Achmea and the wonderful people around me. I look back with pride and gratitude on the many memorable moments and numerous achievements we shared over the past twelve years. At the same time, I look forward with confidence to a future full of new opportunities. Over the coming months, I will continue to dedicate myself fully to Achmea and ensure a smooth transition for my successor.”

The process to appoint Michiel’s successor is now underway. Michiel's exact departure date in 2026 will depend on the start date of the successor. We will provide further information as soon as it is available.

Achmea appoints Michiel Delfos as a member of the Executive Board and Chief Risk Officer

Michiel Delfos will be appointed as a member of the Executive Board and Chief Risk Officer of Achmea with effect from 12 April 2022. He fills the vacancy that arose after Henk Timmer recently stepped down.

Michiel Delfos joined Achmea in early 2014 as director of Property & Casualty insurance. In October 2015 he became chairman of the Non-life division. Michiel had previously held various management and board positions at Delta Lloyd and ABN AMRO Verzekeringen. He studied International Economic Law at Leiden University.

Broad experience in financial services

He also has extensive knowledge of risk management and compliance at complex financial institutions. I am proud that we are able to welcome someone from within our own organisation to the Executive Board and look forward to our cooperation.”

Michiel Delfos’s appointment has been approved by De Nederlandsche Bank and has received favourable advice from the central works council. Michiel’s appointment will be discussed during Achmea’s General Meeting on 12 April 2022.

Henk Timmer to step down from Achmea’s Executive Board

Chief Risk Officer Henk Timmer (61) will stand down from Achmea’s Executive Board on 1 March 2022. After a career of almost 25 years at Achmea, including eight as a member of the Executive Board (two terms of office), he has decided to focus more on supervisory positions. The timing of his departure has been agreed in close consultation with the Supervisory Board and the chair of Achmea’s Executive Board.

Bianca Tetteroo, chair of the Executive Board: “Henk Timmer has been very important to Achmea’s development in recent years, including in the entire risk domain. His field of work has evolved strongly and we are pleased that it has a solid foundation in our business. We would like to thank Henk for the excellent cooperation and wish him good luck and success.”
