UZP started in 2006 in the Slovak health insurance market and has developed strongly since then. It is now entering its next phase. Customers will benefit from greater scale, combined expertise, and the further development of affordable healthcare in Slovakia.

Achmea will remain active in Slovakia through Union, focusing on property & casualty (P&C) and life insurance. Union's P&C and life insurance company and health insurer Dôvera will enter into a partnership as part of which clients can benefit from a broader range of insurance solutions.

Robert Otto, member of Achmea’s Executive Board: “Dôvera is a strong local health insurer that can take the next strategic step. Both UZP and Dôvera have made a significant contribution to the Slovak healthcare system in recent years. With their combined expertise and larger scale, the combination is well positioned to further develop health insurance services and further enhance quality.”

For Achmea, the sale creates opportunities to accelerate growth in other portfolios in Slovakia and across other European countries. Achmea has subsidiaries in Greece, Türkiye and Australia and provides non-life insurance in Cyprus, Germany, Romania and Spain through online platforms. In addition, Achmea offers greenhouse insurance under the Hagelunie brand in several European countries, Australia and Canada.

The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities. Closing is expected by the end of the year. Upon completion, the transaction will have a positive impact on the group solvency ratio of 2 percentage points.

Union,Slovakia
