Achmea mourns the loss of Supervisory Board member Tjahny Bercx

The Supervisory Board and the Executive Board of Achmea B.V. are deeply saddened by the passing of Tjahny Bercx. After a short illness, he passed away in Amsterdam on 2 July at the age of 63.

Since October 2021, Tjahny Bercx served as a valued member of Achmea's Supervisory Board. He also served on the Supervisory Boards of Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. and Hagelunie N.V.

We will greatly miss Tjahny’s warm presence on our Supervisory Board. We are profoundly grateful for his significant contribution to our organisation. Through his strong commitment and positive spirit, Tjahny left a lasting impression.

Our thoughts are with his wife, children, and all those who were dear to him. We wish them strength to bear this immense loss.

Hanno Mijer appointed as member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board

At today's General Meeting, Hanno Mijer was appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea. Vice-Chair Wim de Weijer has stepped down after completing his term, having served as a Supervisory Board member since 2016.

Hanno Mijer began his career in the insurance sector in 1988 at Aegon and subsequently worked as a partner at the international consultancy Watson Wyatt. Since 2007, he has held various executive positions within Zurich Insurance Group, including CEO of Cover-More and CEO of Corporate Life & Pensions. In his role as Global Head of Zurich Resilience Solutions, he focused on developing innovative risk prevention, data, and technology services. His experience in this field has clear social relevance: effective risk prevention helps limit losses for customers and strengthen society’s resilience. In addition, Hanno Mijer has broad expertise in life, pension and general insurance, across both the retail and corporate markets. He has been appointed for a four-year term, as approved by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).

At the General Meeting, Chair Jan van den Berg, a member of Achmea's Supervisory Board since 2018, was also reappointed for another two-year term.

The Supervisory Board has elected Else Bos as Vice-Chair from among its members. The composition is now as follows: Jan van den Berg (Chair), Else Bos (Vice-Chair), Tjahny Bercx, Antonio Cano, Miriam van Dongen, Lex Kloosterman, Nienke Meijer, and Hanno Mijer. Hanno Mijer will also join the Supervisory Board of Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V.

Reappointment of member of the Executive Board
The Supervisory Board has formally reappointed Michiel Delfos, member of the Executive Board and CRO of Achmea since 2022, until 1 October 2026. On that date, he will step down from his position and be succeeded by Rogier Peters. For further information, please refer to the separate press release.

Else Bos appointed as member of Achmea's Supervisory Board

Else Bos was appointed as a member of Achmea's Supervisory Board at today's Annual General Meeting. Petri Hofsté and Roel Wijmenga have stepped down from the Supervisory Board, as their terms of appointment have come to an end. Both had been part of the Supervisory Board since 2015.

Else Bos is an experienced director in the financial sector. She has held leadership positions at prominent organisations, such as ABN AMRO, PGGM and De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). In addition to her role at Achmea, she is a member of the Supervisory Board of Ortec Finance, IFM Investors and Van Lanschot Kempen. Else Bos studied econometrics at Erasmus University Rotterdam and has gained extensive experience in asset management, pensions and financial supervision over the course of her career. Her appointment is for a period of four years and has been approved by the Dutch Central Bank.

At the General Meeting, Tjahny Bercx – a member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board since 2021 – was also reappointed for a term of four years.

The Supervisory Board has reappointed Daphne de Kluis – a member of Achmea's Executive Board since 2021 – for a term of four years.

Antonio Cano new member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board

Today, Antonio Cano has been appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea B.V. during the Extraordinary General Meeting.

Antonio Cano has extensive managerial and supervisory experience in the international insurance market. For the past 35 years, he has held executive positions at AMEV, Fortis, Caifor, AG Insurance and Ageas, among others.

His extensive knowledge of the industry and his experience in risk management make him a valuable addition to our Board.”

Nienke Meijer new member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board

Today’s Extraordinary General Meeting appointed Nienke Meijer as a member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board for a period of four years. The appointment has been approved by the Dutch central bank (“De Nederlandsche Bank”). Nienke Meijer fills the vacancy that arose when Lineke Sneller stood down in April.

Nienke Meijer is amongst others co-founder and partner of Stichting De Buitenboordmotor, a member of the supervisory boards of PostNL and Deloitte and chair of the board of Stichting De Volkskrant. Previously she served as chair of the board of Fontys Hogescholen and held several commercial and managerial roles at the publishers Wegener and VNU. Nienke Meijer studied Psychology & Marketing at Utrecht University and has completed various international training courses.

Jan van den Berg, chair of Achmea’s Supervisory Board: “Nienke Meijer has a broad background as a manager in the public and private sectors and has strong managerial and supervisory competences. She also has extensive experience with digitalisation and platforms, new earnings models and partnerships. All this makes her a valuable addition to Achmea’s Supervisory Board.”

Tjahny Bercx new member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board

Today’s General Meeting of Shareholders approved the appointment of Tjahny Bercx as a member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board for a period of four years. The appointment has been approved by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). Tjahny Bercx fills the vacancy that arose when Mijntje Lückerath stood down in April.

After a career as a naval officer, Tjahny Bercx made the switch to business and the HR discipline in 1997. He worked successively as Vice President HR at ING Barings and KLM. He joined mobility company LeasePlan in 2005, where he is currently Chief People & Performance Officer. Tjahny Bercx holds a master’s degree in psychology, completed an MBA at Keele University (UK) and has written several books on HR subjects. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of ProRail.

The current members of Achmea’s Supervisory Board are Jan van den Berg (chair), Wim de Weijer (vice-chair), Tjahny Bercx, Miriam van Dongen, Petri Hofsté, Lex Kloosterman, Lineke Sneller and Roel Wijmenga.

Jan van den Berg new Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Achmea

Jan van den Berg will be appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Achmea on 13 April 2021, the date of Achmea’s General Meeting. Mr van den Berg will succeed Aad Veenman, who will step down during the General Meeting after completing his third four-year term of appointment. The appointment has been approved by De Nederlandsche Bank.

Jan van den Berg (left) has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea since February 2018. He has extensive experience in executive and supervisory roles in the international insurance market having worked for NN, AXA and Prudential. Mr van den Berg is also a member of the Supervisory Boards of Achmea Zorgverzekeringen NV, Achmea Schadeverzekeringen NV, Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen NV and myTomorrows, a Dutch global healthcare company.

Aad Veenman has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea since April 2009 and Chairman for the past four and a half years. He is also Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Achmea Schadeverzekeringen NV and Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen NV.

Miriam van Dongen new member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board

During the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) today, the shareholders approved the appointment of Miriam van Dongen as a member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board. Ms van Dongen will be appointed for a period of four years. The nomination has been approved by the Nederlandsche Bank. Additionally, the AGM has reappointed Wim de Weijer to the Supervisory Board for a period of four years.

Miriam van Dongen has extensive experience in the financial sector. As a professional supervisory director, she is associated with PGGM and Optiver and used to be in the Supervisory Board of, among others, VIVAT. She was previously CFO at Achmea Health (2007-2009) and has held various management positions at Delta Lloyd. Miriam van Dongen studied Business Economics at Tilburg University.

Achmea supervisory board member Roelof Joosten passed away

The Supervisory Board and Executive Board of Achmea B.V. were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Roelof Joosten on Monday at the age of 62.

Roelof Joosten had been a member of the Supervisory Board of Achmea since April 2019 and, as of September 2019, also a member of the supervisory boards of group companies Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V. and Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. During his impressive career he had been CEO of FrieslandCampina, one of the world’s largest dairy co-operatives.

We remember Roelof’s warmth, enthusiasm and sense of humour and we are very grateful for his contribution to our organisation. Sadly, we were able to work with him for far too short a period.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife and children and wish them strength to cope with this loss.

Roelof Joosten appointed member of Achmea’s Supervisory Board

Achmea’s AGM has appointed Roelof Joosten as member of the Supervisory Board. He succeeds Antoon Vermeer, who retired from his position last year at the end of his maximum term of office. Joosten’s appointment is for a period of four years and has been approved by the Dutch Central Bank (DNB).

Between June 2015 and January 2018, Roelof Joosten was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FrieslandCampina. He joined the dairy business in 2004 and became a member of its Executive Board in 2012. Joosten studied chemical technology in Groningen. After graduating, he began his career at Unilever, where he worked for almost 15 years before moving to Quest in 1998. Unilever had sold Quest, a producer of fragrances and flavourings, to the British ICI shortly before Joosten joined.

Joke van Lonkhuijzen has stepped down; three supervisory directors have been reappointed
Joke van Lonkhuijzen stepped down as a supervisory director on 11 April 2019. She has held this position since 2011. Owing to her wide-ranging background in the healthcare sector, she has also been a member of Achmea Zorgverzekeringen’s Supervisory Board since 2016. Aad Veenman and Willem van Duin, chairman of the Supervisory Board and chairman of the Executive Board of Achmea, respectively, would like to thank Joke van Lonkhuijzen for her contribution and hard work over the past eight years and wish her every success for the future.

The AGM also reappointed Petri Hofsté, Mijntje Lückerath and Roel Wijmenga as supervisory directors for a four-year term.
