Achmea in the top 10 of global cooperative insurers

Achmea is the eighth largest cooperative insurer in the world as reported in the World Cooperative Monitor, which is published each year by the leading international organisations, the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) and the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (EURICSE). Zenkyoren of Japan holds first place in the insurance category.

Achmea’s cooperative Eurapco partners, COVEA (France), Reale Mutua (Italy), Gothaer (Germany), Länsförsäkringar (Sweden), La Mobilière (Switzerland) and LocalTapiola (Finland), are also well represented in the list of insurers. The full list in the insurance category is shown below. Achmea holds twenty-first place in the Top 300 ranking in the report.

The World Cooperative Monitor states that “Insurance cooperatives and mutuals focus on the long-term needs of their customers and on delivering high quality products at fair prices”. According to the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) “mutual or cooperative insurers serve more than 900 million people worldwide.”

Each year, ICA and EURICSE use financial data from all large cooperative organisations to prepare an overall ranking and sectoral lists. It is the only report in the world that is drawn up by collecting annual quantitative data.

Achmea’s cooperative identity

Achmea has a strong cooperative identity and balances the interests of customers, partners, employees and shareholders. That cooperative identity drives Achmea to work for a healthy, safe and future-proof society. Precisely the reason that Achmea was founded 210 years ago in 1811.
