Publication: update Climate Transition Plan
Achmea today publishes an update to its Climate Transition Plan, outlining our goals, actions, and progress in addressing climate change. Achmea is committed to contributing to the objectives of the Paris Agreement, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. This commitment forms the foundation of our climate strategies, goals, and actions. Our Climate Transition Plan focuses on achieving our net-zero targets through concrete actions and measurable results.
Key points from the update include:
- Climate change mitigation: Over the past year, we have taken further steps to reduce our direct and indirect CO2 emissions and support our customers and partners in their sustainability initiatives. We have also increased our impact investments in areas like the energy transition. We are on track to meet our interim targets for 2030.
- Climate change adaptation: We are assessing the risks of climate change to our insurance and investment portfolios and taking action to mitigate these risks. We remain committed to public-private partnerships to enhance the insurability of climate-related damages.
- Collaboration and stakeholder engagement: We are collaborating with partners to develop and implement sustainable solutions, such as in sustainable damage repair and the greening of the healthcare sector. We also engage in dialogue with the companies we invest in or insure to accelerate sustainable changes in the real economy.
- Transparency: We have improved our reporting processes to transparently communicate our progress on climate goals. For the first time, we have reported the emissions from our Dutch health insurance activities and expanded our reporting to include emissions from our international operations.
Continuous Improvement and Collaboration
Achmea believes that collaboration and innovation are essential for creating a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable society. We invite our stakeholders to review our update and work with us to shape the path towards a sustainable future.
As new climate insights, legislation, data, and measurement methods emerge, we recognize that these may lead us to adjust our goals and plans. Therefore, we will update this plan annually.
