Update climate transition plan

In August, together with the publication of the half-year results, we published an update of our climate transition plan. It describes our climate goals, actions and the results. Publishing and updating our climate transition plan annually is part of the Dutch financial sector's Climate Commitment.

We are on track to achieving our interim targets for 2030 and are even exceeding them in a number of areas, such as making the real estate portfolio more sustainable and reducing the emissions of our investment portfolio. At the same time, the update of the climate transition plan includes a number of new goals and actions. We have highlighted some of these below:

Achmea locations Tilburg and Leeuwarden energy-neutral by 2030
In addition to our goal to have the Apeldoorn location energy-neutral by 2025, this now also applies to our locations in Tilburg and Leeuwarden by 2030. In addition, we aim for a waste-free offices (zero waste) by 2030. Starting this year, we are also including the CO₂ emissions of working from home in our calculations.

Investing more in the energy transition and tightening of fossil fuel investment policy.
We also see that more is needed to accelerate the energy transition worldwide. That is why one of our new goals is to invest minimal 10% of Achmea's own accounts in impact investments (approximately 4 billion) by 2025. We will invest more in companies and projects that generate sustainable energy, such as wind and solar energy, and in sustainable healthcare real estate. In addition, we have tightened the criteria for our investments in fossil fuel companies.

Sustainable initiatives in our products and services
We help our customers becoming more sustainable by offering mortgage loans for sustainability and with sustainable services offered by Centraal Beheer. We have expanded the range of services that we offer with an electric car subscription, heat pumps and dynamic energy contracts. Zilveren Kruis is working with other insurers to make healthcare more sustainable (Green Deal Sustainable Care 3.0). We also advise clients on climate-adaptive measures to remain resilient to climate change. And we enter into private-public partnerships in the field of flooding, whether or not to build outside the dikes and foundation problems due to too much or too little water.

The transition to a sustainable economy requires active cooperation between governments, the financial sector and the business community. Only together can we develop solutions for the transition to a sustainable and climate-resilient society. Developmentsare moving fast. There are always new climate insights, legislation, data and measurement methods. This also creates new insights that can lead to us having to adjust our goals and plans in the meantime. We therefore update this plan annually
