Dutch business develops an independent digital identity wallet with MyCheck
A coalition of Dutch organizations, including ABN AMRO, Achmea, ASN, Deloitte, KPN, and Rabobank, is developing MyCheck, a reliable and widely applicable wallet for digital identification. With MyCheck, which complies with all European regulations, citizens and consumers can securely identify themselves online and share personal data. Users decide for themselves which data they share with companies and government agencies. The participating organizations are offering the government to implement the independent wallet together with them, without incurring any costs for the government or users.
New European rules
The new European rules for digital identity are called eIDAS 2.0. According to these rules, all EU countries must have developed a new system by the end of 2027 at the latest so that people can digitally share their identity and personal data. Dutch organizations see this as an opportunity to jointly develop a secure and simple digital wallet.
The Dutch government is positive towards parties wishing to test the operation of wallets (in accordance with eIDAS 2.0) in the Netherlands. After all, trials such as these are necessary to gain practical knowledge in anticipation of the entry into force of the system.
Digital wallet
MyCheck is a secure and simple app for digital transactions, documents, and data. Think of logging in, proving age, signing contracts, and sharing address details for a driver's license or passport. Users choose for themselves which data they share. They do not need to provide more information than necessary. Examples include:
• Prove age with less data : For a product or service with an age limit, a person only needs to prove that they are old enough. Name, address, and full date of birth do not need to be shared.
• Faster and more secure login : Users can log in to various organizations from one trusted app. They do not need to use a separate account and password for each organization.
• Share data only once : For a contract or application, approved data can be shared immediately. As a result, people need to fill out the same forms less often.
• Choose which data to share yourself : The user sees which data an organization requests and decides whether or not to give permission to share it.
• Easier digital signing : The user can review an agreement and digitally sign it in the same trusted app.
Dutch cooperation
A digital identity is becoming increasingly important in interactions with companies and public organizations. Therefore, a solution is needed that is secure, simple, and usable for many people. No single organization can create such a solution alone. Many Dutch organizations from various sectors are collaborating on this initiative. This demonstrates that there is confidence in this Dutch solution. By sharing knowledge, technology, and experience, they are building a secure digital foundation for the Netherlands. MyCheck offers a Dutch alternative to similar services from large international technology companies and is therefore of strategic national importance.
ABN AMRO, Achmea, ASN, Deloitte, KPN, and Rabobank are the initiators and investors, with ASR and Nationale-Nederlanden having indicated their desire to make use of the opportunities offered by MyCheck. The coalition is in discussions with multiple parties regarding participation.
